NBC Sports Washington is the official home to in-season coverage of the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards. NBC Sports Washington came to DX looking to establish its social profiles as the digital headquarters for all things DC sports and drive tune-in for its game broadcasts.
NBC Sports Washington was already producing best-in-class content on a daily basis. The goal became identifying the consumers who would be most interested in its videos and articles, and aggregating them into the NBC Sports Washington social communities. Through a series of interactive digital engagements, targeted paid media, and shareable game posts, DX was able to drastically increase the daily reach of the NBC Sports Washington social profiles and build a community of segmented, accessible sports fans across the DC area.
With the regular seasons finalized and both DC teams hoping for deep runs in the playoffs, NBC Sports Washington was keen to capitalize on postseason excitement. By leveraging interest targeting and retargeting segments of Capitals and Wizards fans, DX reactivated consumption of streaming mobile content among “second screeners,” all while keeping NBC Sports in the forefront of DC postseason coverage.
Tasked with reaching a specific consumer in the DC metro area, DX took to Facebook and Instagram to share the Honda Hockey Moms Sweepstakes. Using interest targeting and a variety of retargeting methods—fans of the page, video consumption, and CRM list to name a few—DX ensured that media reached over 220K users in the geo-targeted footprint and that one special mom received a long overdue thank you.
